In May 2026, social media users widely shared an image allegedly showing a woman named Laree Chante arriving at the 2026 Met Gala wearing a dress covered in newspaper clippings referencing Jeffrey Epstein.
One viral X post described it as the “best dress at the Gala” and included calls to “release the Epstein files.”
The image also spread across Instagram and Facebook, leading many users to question whether it genuinely depicted a Met Gala attendee.
After reviewing the available evidence, Clarifact found that the image was not authentic and was instead created using artificial intelligence tools.
What We Found
To verify the image, reverse-image searches were conducted using Google Lens alongside searches on Google, DuckDuckGo, and Yahoo for terms related to “Laree Chante” and the “Met Gala.”
If the image had shown a real attendee at the event, professional photographers and media agencies covering the Met Gala would likely have captured and published additional images through major outlets such as Getty Images or Vogue.
No such evidence was found.
Additionally, published attendee lists from reputable entertainment outlets, including Vanity Fair, did not include anyone named Laree Chante among the guests at the 2026 Met Gala.
Origin of the image
The image appears to have originated from the Instagram account @mslareechante, which posted it on May 4, 2026.
The account’s bio openly describes its content as AI-generated, referring to the creator as an “AI Prompt Queen” who transforms “REAL photos in Magic.”
A review of the account showed numerous other AI-generated fashion images, including additional fictional Met Gala outfits posted around the same time.
These included:
- A dress featuring newspaper-style political messaging
- An American flag-themed AI-generated outfit
The Epstein-themed dress was part of the same AI-generated content series.
Why the image is fake
Several factors indicate the image is not authentic:
- No credible photo agencies documented the supposed attendee
- The alleged attendee was absent from official guest lists
- The source account openly identified itself as AI-focused
- Similar AI-generated Met Gala images appeared alongside it
Based on these findings, Clarifact determined that the image was digitally generated and did not depict a real Met Gala appearance.
The Bottom Line
The viral image claiming to show a Met Gala attendee wearing a dress made of Jeffrey Epstein newspaper articles is not authentic.
The image was created using AI tools and originated from a social media account dedicated to AI-generated content.
Clarifact therefore rates the claim as Fake.
